In the digital era; concepts such as data corruption, glitches and bugs are prevalent. However, such destructive processes, technical glitches and chaotic aesthetics are rarely appreciated as beauty, and instead are widely regarded as an undesirable side effect of our modern conveniences.
To me however there is much beauty to be found in the processes of destruction, disassembly, manipulation and re-composition
I wanted to explore the concept of Corruption through destructive processes. Taking an uncorrupted image, Databending the image using software such as ExtraFile to create unstable jpeg files, Next disassembling the resulting image into core components, and finally assembling a new image from the corrupted building blocks.
But much more than just compiling junk textures. Repeated image corruption is like a digital game of 'Telephone'. Taking the same fundamental pieces of the original file and building from it a new interpretation of the image Each a slightly modified version of the last. Gradually becoming more corrupted, complex and distorted.
Similar conceptually to that asshole who persistently edits posts on wikipedia.
I use this process of corrupting, manipulating and re-assembling as a core principle in this illustration series. Once I finish a 'corrupted' illustration, I begin the loop again by using the corrupted final piece as the starting point to build new core components from.
Tl;Dr: My goal is to document the deteriorative process of repeated corruption and re-composition.
Thank you! I'm glad you like it! The colours are randomly generated during the corruption process though I was really pleased with these combinations it really works well!
I love the unpredictability and haphazard nature of such things. I find that it is beautiful at all stages of the production. even at it's most corrupted state. it's haunting you're right! Most glitch inspired works are rather eerie in themselves
I'm really starting to believe this is true for all forms of art
The list is nearly endless. Terrence McKenna is another cool aspect from a psychedelic perspective. [link]
There's something quite haunting about corruption, and such things of this kind, which just adds to the beauty.
