Daydreaming in Tokyo

My latest Digital painting of a Japanese girl I named Reika.
she reminds me of myself in a way. daydreaming staring into a cup of tea pondering life's little mysteries.
I love this image so much... everything about it captured the feelings of inner peace and happiness I wanted it to.

Bright, sugar coated colour schemes and cute girls for the win

I don't care if some think animu style isn't a valid form of art

or that anime artists can't paint normal realist stuff...
we can it's just boring to do so all the time

I paint because painting means I can be abstract in my colour palettes as well as my proportions... why should I always stick blindly to the norm ?

Extended hiatus then I'm moving to a new profile

I want to become more professional, but this profile and it's outdated name has been a part of my life for many years.
I don't want to let it go, but it's just not who I am anymore. I'm no longer the punkish skater kid who used to want to be a graphics designer, create skate decks and skate films. I grew up, I became who I am today, the sweet lolita who is obsessed with candy. and I'd like a fresh start. to cast off the shackles of my old paintings. and create a gallery of worthwhile artwork. stuff i can be proud of.

just like a caterpillar casting off it's chrysalis to become a butterfly.

I'm going to take a hiatus... some time out to come back fresh faced with a whole new gallery of work. without the shackles of my old work putting me to shame. a fresh chance to be who I want to be as an artist.

my dear friends, fans, knobheads and watchers. (you know who you are!)

Things that I'm currently working on

I'm working on this fan art of Faith

(having problems with the khaki tho... I've never painted khaki T_T

Coursework coursework... infectious design submissions... more coursework... shoes coursework and also some really awesome paper thingies... can't rly describe them in words... they're like 3D cut images using one sheet of paper... quite difficult and intricate but really rewarding
Designing loooads of funky accessories, plush toys,shoes and polymerclay jewelery that will be also up for commission from me gahh sooo much stuuufffff (more info on that later on in the year tho)
I'm also designing new abstract fantasy characters. but I'm not saying much as to what ideas I have... hehe wait and see
so I have loads of pent up frustration that needs to get out through the medium of painting. and I've been doing nothing but research into ways of improving myself artistically. I've been studying MORE anatomy, textures. the physics of fabrics. and even repeat pattern designs for fabrics so that my work can look more realistic, more beautiful and lifelike as well as studying textures and lighting.
So it's gonna be an exceptionally busy year for me from now on I guess...

Thanks for all your critiques... those joyous things are what fuel me to get better. so keep leaving them for me!!
I promise I will reply to you very sooon!!! And if I don't get back to you soon, plz just understand that I'm VERY busy so dn't be angry with me k??

Wanna know something cool?

I found a lovely tutorial on displacement maps if you too have problems overlaying texture... i will say though you have to be quite adept at photoshop to grasp this at first! but it has proved itself to be an invaluable piece of information to me!

I'm an Illustrator living in the UK
I'm a student at Glyndwr University, where I'm studying a BA in Illustration for graphic novels.
I work on comics for fun and also paint fantasy art for commission.
my tools of the trade:
traditional: watercolours and inks
Digital: photoshop, painter

Likes: candy, in all shapes and sizes... chocolate, crisps and all other kind of junk food! although I NEVER get fat... cute and shiny things... bells. skateboarding, bass playing, death and dismemberment.

Dislikes:
People who take things too seriously, and people who are petty about little things that don't matter on the scale of things. even though I used to be a chef I hate eating ~
